PcRestore V2.50 (30-MAY-94)
***************************************************************************
Written by Mikael Nordlund.
What is PcRestore?
PcRestore is a utility for transfering files between MSDOS to Amiga.
For example, when you have downloaded a bunch of files on your PC
(you have dl:ed at your job, it's cheaper that way:-) ) and want it
transfered to your Amiga. Most files you have downloaded are .LHA and .DMS
files and are rather big. You could copy every file to PC-disks and then
copy them manually to your Amiga ,indeed possible but who wants to work
unnecessarily?
If you want to transfer a file that is larger than 729 K (which is the
diskspace available on a PC without HDFloppy), you'll have to split it on
the PC and join it on the Amiga, indeed possible but who wants to work
unnecessarily?
This program is the solution to those problems. (oops now we're sounding
just like TVShop hehe)
Just use the MSDOS program 'BACKUP' on your PC and backup all the files.
Then use PcRestore to restore them to your Amiga.
It handles the 'BACKUP' command on DOS 3.30, 4.X, 5.X. Perhaps it works
on lower version's but I haven't been able to test it.
It can read ANY valid unit or path, so if you want to copy the backupdisks
on your harddrive and then run this program it is going to work just fine.
System requirements.
Well, Well. OS2.0 is certainly needed for this.
and Asl.Library V38+ as well.
If Automount facility is used then you have to have:
Run for OS Execute (function)
Mount for mounting sources
Memory requirements are as following:
Crossdosfilesystem or similary system (you have to be enable to read PC-
formatted disk's).
Locale is used if it exists on your machine.
How do I use it?
Now then, lets go on with the main thing or the gadgets.
You can either use the mouse or the keys for the different gadgets.
Start:
Pretty obvious.
Abort:
Also obvious.
Quit:
If you use this gadget, then you tell the Amiga to remove this task from
the processors tasklist. (Nice explanation).
About:
Try it.
Ask To Restore File:
This gadget can be activated at ANY time. If activated, the program
will ask you whether to restore a file or not.
If activated during the restoration of a file then the file currently
processed will be restored, and thereafter you will be asked of what
to do with each file until you deactivate it.
If DEactivated during the restoration of a file then the file currently
processed and all files thereafter will be restored.
It will create a screenblink when it wants you to answer if it is to
restore a file or not.
Config:
Opens the configuration screen.
**** Configuration Screen ****
Source 1(2,3,4):
You MUST specify at least one of them. You can for instance just specify
Source 1 and Source 3.
This is just the path or device you want the program to look for PCBackup
disks or files.
Either type in the path or utilize the gadget to pop up a requester.
Destination:
This, you also MUST specify. Its where the restored data will be, and as
usual for the rest, LOOK above.
Preserve Path:
If you want to restore the backup with dir's and original path's you
have to use this.
AutoMount Sources:
When you utilize this gadget then PcRestore will try to mount the source
devices. It uses the Amiga's c-command 'Mount' so you must have it on the
disk if you want to use this option. I thought it was better to do like
this cause when Commodore upgrade the 'Mount' command, PcRestore will use
the updated version instead of using an inbuilt version which may be out
dated.
Replace File:
This cyclegadget has three options.
"Always" Replace File: PcRestore will not check if the file you want to
restore already exists.
"Never" Replace File: PcRestore will not restore a file if it already
exists.
"Ask" Replace File: PcRestore will pop up a gadget for you to select
if you want to Replace, Rename or Skip the file.
On Restore:
This cyclegadget has three options.
"No Rename" On Restore: PcRestore will not change the filename in ANY
way.
"Auto Rename" On Restore: PcRestore will change the first char to caps,
the rest will be changed to small.
"Man Rename" On Restore: PcRestore will pop up a gadget for you to enter
the new name for the file.
Save:
Save the config.
Use:
Use the config, without saving it.
Cancel:
Well, All changes are cancelled (why did you enter the config window then
schmuckhead :-) )
*******************
CLI Options:
When you start PcRestore you can use the option 'S' to let you start
PcRestore directly with the present configuration.
'PS <screenname>' option if you want the PcRestore window on a non-default
public screen.
Phuuuuu!!!!

I call this program ShareWare so if you use it and think it is worth
something then send me some cash in US$ or SEK so I can continue to
develop useful programs in the future.
Send cash, bugreports, improvements etc. to the following address.

These have currently payed some ShareWare attributes:
Thomas Kobler
Mats Granstrom
Kenth Berthilsson
Ludwig Kamphenkel
Kajetan Hinner
Janne Karlsson
Jürgen Matern
Thomas Otwald Jensen
Jes Sorensen
Jesper Skov
Stephen Hendry
As you can see, it's not so many that have paid ShareWare. And I think
that's because I haven't put any keyfile or similary to protect the program.
As the look of today it seems to be the only way to get some people to
give some money for the program. :-(
But I'll wait with the protection and hope that YOU can pay for good
programs that YOU use.
Perhaps the complete version of PcRestore (that includes PcBackup) will be
protected with annoying things. But if the ShareWare-paying gets better,
I'll maybe ignore it (keyfiles is a VERY annoying thing).
DS. I also want to thank Kenth Berthilsson for some basic ideas.
And thanks to Mats Granstrom for some nags about the program.
+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
TODO:
* Add support for 'MSBackup' (Yes, I know, it's gonna be hard)
* Key-file??? (It's not my fault) :-(
+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
Bye, Bye and hopefully you will hear from me soon.
